Trekchod Ling is an on-going project for a non-sectarian (Tib. rime) retreat center on a 150 acre plot of land in Abingdon, Virginia, where students of all traditions can build the foundation necessary to relax into the fundamental nature of mind through the union of Mahamudra and Dzogchen. In his own words, "We are here to help you establish a profound experience of the Dharmakaya in your life." The retreat center also serves as a means to prevent meditative atrophy in any lineage.
Your support in the form of donations helps us to build necessary infrastructure such as roads and utility extensions for the healthy birth of Trekchod Ling.
We plan for Trekchod Ling to host public group retreats up to a month long and longer private retreats, along with public teachings, empowerments, a schedule of guest Rinpoches, and spaces for private events such as weddings and public events like interfaith forums. We will make heavy use of traditional Mongolian yurts to accomplish this goal swiftly and at a low cost. We are building four main sites: Rinpoche's yurt, the meditation yurt, resident yurts (we plan to build housing for 10-20 retreatants).
We currently plan to build two large yurts and two small yurts. One large yurt to be a meditation hall and one for Rinpoche's house, with the two small yurts for retreatants. We plan to add more small yurts once this first phase is complete. We have finished structural designs and manufacturing requests for all the yurts.
We are planning the utility extensions and foundation construction with the contractor as we continue exploring avenues for operations funding.
We expect the project to cost $225,000. Please explore our fundraisers for support opportunities.
The land in Abingdon, Virginia was acquired by one of Rinpoche's students. It has a main road and electrical, septic, sewage, and a main house, but needs infrastructure run throughout the rest of the acreage. There is a natural lake on the land as well as an auspicious cave with a waterfall. We hope to erect a mountain shrine there.
